Medical Services

Hereford Regional Medical Center recently completed construction of their 42 bed facility serving the medical needs of Hereford and the Deaf Smith County area.

Medical personnel in Hereford include nine doctors, three dentists, and four optometrists.

Two clinics extend care to residents.

Trained ambulance personnel are based at the hospital and emergency transportation is available via ground and air.

Two facilities provide a total of 224 beds for those in need of skilled nursing services.

Northwest Texas Hospital Systems - The Heart Hospital at Northwest Texas and Baptist St Anthony's Hospital Systems are located in Amarillo, TX just a short 45 minute drive from Hereford. 


Hereford Independent School District offers pre-K through 12 education and encompasses five elementary campuses, Hereford Jr. High, Hereford Preparatory Academy, and Hereford High School.  Enrollment is just under 4,000 students.  HISD employs over 250 teachers providing an overall student teacher ratio of just under 15 students per teacher.

Career and Technology training through HISD include studies in Agricultural Science, Auto Technology, Child Development, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Health Science, Home Economics,  Manufacturing/Welding, and Meat Processing. 

HISD competes in Texas class AAAA athletics fielding teams in football, volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball, tennis, golf, and track and field. 

Private Kindergarten through fifth grade education is available through St. Anthony's Catholic School.

Higher education options available in Hereford include branch campuses of Amarillo College and Frank Phillips College.  Both offering Associate Degrees in a wide range of studies.  West Texas A&M University is located within 30 minutes of Hereford in Canyon, TX.  Texas Tech University Health Science Center is located in Amarillo, TX approximately 45 minutes from Hereford, and the main campus of Texas Tech University is located 90 miles from Hereford, in Lubbock, TX.
